Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you know I made it safe & sound to South Korea! I'm living with my friend Jason's sister Amie in a suburb called Paju, about an hour by bus from downtown Seoul. I was kind of hoping to be a little closer to the city centre, but this way we get a great apartment with wall-sized windows and all the high-tech amenities, and we're right next to a forest that we can walk around in. We did go downtown yesterday, and it was as spectacular as you might imagine a huge bustling Asian metropolis to be! The school that we're teaching in is also very high-tech, with CCTV cameras in all the classrooms and monitors in the lobby so that parents can watch the classes at any time. Talk about unnerving... The staff there seems great though, and one of them is a vegetarian, which is pretty rare in Korea. Amie and I are the only two foreign teachers so far though, so we're pretty much the face of the school at the moment. It opens on the 30th - hopefully they'll have some more teachers by then. For now we're just making flash cards, observing classes at other schools, and getting training.
Bye for now!
